What is the Acoustic Army?

The Acoustic Army is a gathering hosted by Ralph, at FitzGerald's Sidebar in Berwyn, and now also at the Shed in Highland Park. Ralph plays old songs and new songs, takes audience requests, and audience members have the opportunity if they choose to download charts of Ralph's songs and bring their instruments to play along. Other audience members simply choose to sing along, or have a cold beverage and listen. Often, various pro musicians drop by on free nights and play along as well -- Eli Bennett and Miguel Gonzalez, pictured above on bass and percussion, for instance, and often Mike Hartigan, who first played with Ralph at the Acoustic Army and is now keyboard player for The Bad Examples. Eli has played bass at BE shows as well. It's always nice to have talented friends!
Song selection mostly takes place by requests or clues from audience members, and in addition to playing songs from his deep catalog, Ralph brings along a book of lyrics to unreleased songs, including ones he hasn't played in years. |
